P-0440-Changed Cap, checked wiring - ?
Thursday, April 13, 2006 4:02 AM
I keep getting the P0440 Code on my 2000 Z24. I have changed the gas cap and checked the wiring leading to the EVAP cannister (I think) and everything looks good.
I heard that I might need to change a valve in or around the EVAP can. Can anyone clarify or provide more insight into what I can look at/do?

I have a code reader, so I just clear it every week, but it is getting annoying.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have the same stupid CEL staring at me whenever i drive my car too. I had a mechanic diagnose it as the purge soleniod for the evap system. We used a scan tool to turn it on and off and he says you should be able to hear it, but we didn't hear anything. I just haven't gotten around to replacing it yet due to lack of funds, which is sad since its only like a $40 part.

Hope this helps

Can someone provide more information on the evap valve? Where is it located? What does it look like? Part Numbers?

Thanks,

I just took care of this problem on my 03 Cavy. The part I got from the dealer was 1997278 and cost me around $14 (because I work for Advance Auto and we have an account witrh them), but it lists for $21. It's in the engine bay (on my car.. dunno about the z24) to the right of the valve cover, near the PS pump.. has a plug and two plastic lines coming from it. Hope that helps.
