i just have a quick questio i couldnt find in a search. i know the 2200 has a loud timing chain but it has annoyed me enough. the car has 75000 miles on it and i figure i'll just replace it. how much will it cost me at a shop
00 cavalier (5 speed, 2200) 84 chevy c-10 (v-8, 400 hp) 64 volvo 122 ( everything......)
the 2200 has a loud timing chain? as in stock? if thats so its not like u can get an aftermarket high performance quiet chain.lol mine had 120k miles and it looked damn new only reason i replaced it because i had to do the water pump and it came off anyway.. but possibly one of your guides broke
either way every shop and every location is gonna be different just go to some shops and get estimates theres not really one set price for a timing chain
'00 Cav. 2200, timing chain GM P/N# 24577247 Sug. retail $72.94
labor will probably be atleast 3x that^^^
most shops i've looked at want between 150 and 200 including parts and 2 hours labor. unless you're mechanically inclined, i wouldn't recommend doing it yourself. i AM mechanically inclined and will still pay someone else to do it for me when the time comes. its not fun and its easy to screw up.
GO PATS!!!
i did mine, it thought it was pretty simple, I even replaced the sprockets

the tapping noise went away for about 2 months, then it came back... but not nearly as loud as before though
Redneck, Was that a GM repair price or just a local garage???
Stock or not.....It's Still a J !!!
couple local garages. i don't trust my car at the dealership.
GO PATS!!!
Thanks man!!!
