Water Pump problems on an ECO!?
Friday, April 07, 2006 1:07 PM
Here's the situation...I'm getting my turbo done at a shop and I being told that my water pump is leaking. What strikes me as odd is that my car is a 2003 and I hadn't noticed any leaks or indications that the pump was giving way before the delivery of the car.

Anyway, the shop is very reputable so I'm not going to question them. Here is my question, how much would it cost to have it replaced? (they havn't given me a price yet) I searched but wasn't able to come up with anything for the eco. Also, has anyone (eco owners that is) made an attempt to replace the pump on their own.

I orginally had my warranty for 100,000km but have just surpassed that by 2k or 3k....so I doubt the dealer would do anything about it.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated....

Some eco waterpumps seep and then they don't.
Like they leak a little then they stop.

A customer was complaining about coolant loss. I racked the car, and saw dried coolant around and on the waterpump. This is with the car running. Car hasn't had a problem since. Kinda weird but thats my take.

gm's are notorious for quick leaks like that. my cavy does it, my old gt beretta did it, my dads old monte carlo did and his firebird. alot of ppl with chevys well gm in general get that.

water pump is run off the crank by its own timin chain.as the crank turns the water pump turns and both balance shafts turn. u need to take the timing cover off the motor to replace the pump. put the motor at TDC take water pump off put new one on and make sure timing is correct and put it back together.

The shop wants $200 CDN for the labour......which isn't to bad in comparison to the 2.4L.

Anyway I'm not gonna worry too much as there is more to be looking forward to, like finally being BOOSTED

You don't need to take the timing cover off.

I've never done one, but I've seen someone else in the shop working on one. He had to take the tubo off and everything.

I was looking at the service manual, I believe its a matter of taking that little cover off left of the tensioner and unscrewing it out.

i took my cavy to the dealership 4k past the warranty cuz my shift cable was messed up and they replaced it for free. they called it an "act of good faith" or something like that. might be worth a shot...tell them that work makes it hard to get over there or something...

GO PATS!!!

its easier to take the entire timing cover off to make sure the balance shafts are timed correctly
