Stalling

Ok, so I'm a noob here, but not to wrenching, I am Colorado K5 among others. This looks like a good place and I just bought a 95 Sunfire

My problem is this: It just stalls when driving. It has 78,000 on it. It sputters like it is running out of gas, let it sit for a moment and starts right up. I bought it about 2 weeks ago and this just started.

Things I looked at: Plugs, almost new. Air filter will be replaced ASAP. Fuel filter does not look that old.

Any ideas???

HELP

If a car randomly stalls when driving the first thing to check is fuel pressure, car off, car running, and at 2000RPMs.

Does the car have a 2.2 L motor? If so, having non-platinum plugs installed could be the problem. Coil packs are known to cause these cars to stall out also.

Other than that it sounds like a fuel problem to me. Start with the least expensive item first - have the fuel filter replaced. Have a mechanic check the fuel pump pressure should the new fuel filter not resolve the issue.

That's my insight.

The recall Ryan mentioned does include the 1995 Pontiac Sunfire.

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/recallsearch.cfm
