well ive been messing with this CEL for awhile now when i hook it up to my code reader it says "p1406 EMISSION AUX CONTROL" or something along those lines. anyway when i look it up online it says "egr pintle position sensor" ive replaced the EGR valve itself and i still get it.

It goes on and off by itself.
can clear n go 200 or 20 miles.. before it comes on its very random seems like it mostly come son around town not freeway.

I just remembered i broke my evap can in 2003 in an accident i had and the code does say "emssions aux control" which could maybe mean evap can? the can is broke and the wires are disconnected.

But on the same note ive drove the car without a cel for over 2 years all of a sudden it pops up (last couple of months). any more ideas to check?

Do you guys think the EVAP can is worth replacing for this, i know it seems kinda obvious but its weird how no cel for years. the car has been sitting alot lately too as opposed to being driving all day everyday

I don't know about the 2.4L, but my '95 2.2L had EGR problems that turned out to be the EGR control solenoid. After replacing the EGR valve (for $100), I still had a sporadic CEL and poor throttle response. Replacing the EGR control solenoid ($20) cleared it up right away.

Let us know how it goes.

where is the solenoid?.. ive switched EGR's so mine isnt the egr itself.. PINTLE POSITON SENSOR whatever that is.. let me know
