When I am driving down the highway sometimes my car drives perfectly straight ahead and sometimes it dangerously pulls to the left (& right sometimes) and I have to fight with the wheel to keep my car going straight. This is the second cavalier (present car - 1999 Z24 with 155k miles) that I have owned with this problem. My car is perfectly alligned, I have good tires, good wheel bearings, and new calibers. The problem seems to be getting progressively worse. Please help.
I am thinking you need to inspect you tie rods, Either they need to be greased or they are wornout, I would take a look at youre ball joints as well. Easy way to test youre balljoints for wear, Is to jack the front of youre car up, with the tires still on the car, get both hands on the right / left side of the tire, then try moving the ttire up and down motion to see or feel if their is any play, If so youre ball joints are worn out. Tie rods are easy to tell if worn, Usually you will feel chatter in the steering with the wheels off the ground or a click, That would be my guess into youre steering problems.
Good Luck

yea look at your outter tie rods
I had a motor vehicle safety inspection done well after the problem started (which would include checking ball joints and tie-rod ends) and the car passed. Could the problem be where the steering column mounts on the rack and pinion? Is there a nuckle or something else there that could be worn?
Well motor vehicle safety inspection : is usually good for spotting those problems, Ive seen alot of places that over look it. Cause usually they are too busy to do all the checks, Unless something is completely wornout. Best thing to do Andrew
, is to get a friend to move the steering wheel while you got the front of the car jacked up, Then you can inspect all the nesscery parts that could cause these issues, I am just listing the trouble shoot factors to you, Just as a mechanic would do. I am pretty sure you tie rods have some kind of wear.
Some sites refer to it as a memory steering problem and refer to the solution to be steering rack bushings, other sites say it's the front strut bushings (upper), and some sites say it's the tie rod ends. I think I will take it to a mechanic soon.
