thats right, my girlfriends 95 cav 2.2 auto is stalling, well she just bought it a couple days ago, and today, she ran it for a while around town and she noticed the coolant light flash on n off, she said this happened a few times but nothing consistent, i checked coolant levels n sure enough i had to add, i checked the oil and that wasn't milky so the coolant hasn't made it to there yet (knock on wood)... but it looked like there was a little bit on the side of the head, just below the valve cover, could a blown valve cover gasket or head gasket stall the motor when at idle... thats the only time it stalls is sittin still idling, or what else could it be, i checked around but couldn't see anything else wrong....?
Well Brandon Maston :
First of all are you getting any check engine light On?. If so you will need to get the codes scanned. If not you got to do a bit of trouble shooting,
1.) I would take out each spark plug out 1 at a time after checking. If you got yellow / white on youre plugs you got some problems eccuring, possible cyl head gasket failing.
2.) If you got white smoke / sweet smell out of youre tail pipe on operating warm temp, It could be another possible sign of cyl head gasket. Or using alot of coolant.
3.) You may need to give youre car a good tune ( spark plugs / wires / fuel filter / air filter/ throttle body may need cleaning as well.
well with those tips should help you narrow it down, Keep us informed what youre finds are.
Good Luck.
Most likley the head gasket is going on it. I had a coolant leak coming from the left side (drivers side) of the engine, I put in some of the GM coolant seal tablets and the leak has stopped for now.
turns out it was/is a small coolant leak, got some of those coolant seal tablets n it seems fine now but its only been a day so we will have to see, but yeah no maple syrup smell no visible leaks, guess i will just keep watching coolant levels for her b/c i know she won't....but thanks for all your help my g/f cav should be alright for a while i hope
