G/F has a 96 4 door cav with the 2.2L with the 4 speed automatic.
1st thing in the morning it starts up GREAT, turn the key VROOOM.
throughout the day it takes like 2 to 3 turns of the key, plus stepping on the gas to get it to turn over and then when it does because of the foot on the gas it goes up to 3-4k rpm.
Any help?
well mines the opposite. When the engine is cold and thank has a 1/4 of gas or less, it takes forever to start. Once warmed up its fine.
You problem could be starter related but with the info you gave it would be hard to diagnose without me actually looking at it
what would I have too look at to isolate the problem.
I would almost think its the starter giving up the ghost and sufuring from some heat soak when the engine is warmer..
car does have 102k miles on it. so its not a baby anymore.
Here's one way with out getting out of the car. after the warm up park it turn it off wait 2secs turn the key all the way to the last move just before start listen for the fuel pump noise they turn the key back again then forward 3 times tops..then try to start it if it starts right up you might be looking at a fuel pump, filter, somewhere in that area doesn't the engine light ever come on? when was the last time it had a tune up? ie spark plugs, air filter, oil change etc etc?

its oil chang time, thats why i'm asking what to get. hmm, she got the car from her bro last year so don't know about the fuel filter.
spark plugs were changed last year. as well as a seafoam clean.
Thanks for that check though, next time i'm around the car for a day i'll do that fuel pump prime. just to check. Then change the fuel filter and see if theres a difference.
I had my 2001 brand new, so i know its in tip top shap. heres has much more of a question mark, so theres stuff i probably missed changing, like the fuel filter. d'oh

same exact problem for me.. if its cold it has to be on a flat surface and i have to try like 3-5 times before it will start 1/4 tank or less. Any idea what causes this?
Well it might not be the answer but i had a 92 camaro and had the 1/4 tank of gas and the hard start ...when i had the gas tank replaced (cause rust / leak) i replaced the pump aswell and the 1/4 problem was gone i'm thinking it wasn't a bad pump. just a bad placement of the pick-up line in the tank..
