There are some valid questions about the VSS, it is a sensor and it does go bad, so I'm waiting to see...

The VSS does several things. If it's a 5sp car it feeds the PCM to activate the "shift me" light, also is an input on auto cars for shift control, and the speedometer, milage 'ticker' and some other stuff.

The shift light is purely RPM based, not VSS based.

Disconnecting the VSS will most likely not allow you to go past the top speed, especially on really newer cars.

Not only does the PCM get the vheicle speed from the VSS, but it also usues ABS wheel speed sensors.

Also by disconnecting that you wont have any idea how fast you are going.
