I have a 00 z24, I had this car for about 6 years now, The other day i noticed that my headlights are not working. The brights work, the tails lights work ,turn signals work. I changed the light bulbs thinking that one might be out, but no that didnt work, Is there a relay that might have gone out to cause this? Has anyone ran into this problem too?
according to my haynes manual there is no relay that controls the low beams. it looks as if the power comes into the fuse box, then to the lights and the switch you turn on, completes the ground circuit, turning on the lights....the only wire that could break and effect both lights is the dark blue wire coming off of the headlights, jump together and go to the turn signal stalk..id check that at the turn signal stalk, mabey some damage occured there or something

i'm not sure on 00's but 95' to 98' in the hanyes man shows a daytime running lamp relay . if i remember it's on the rad support. i have a 96' and the guy that owned it before me had the relay go on him. and replaced the blubs then tryied to re wire the whole car i rewired it back and added the new relay and everything works now

ur switch may be busted, i had the same prioblem, now its to the point where I have to hold my brighs on to keep the lights on. to check pull backl on the swith with the lights on and see if they turn on. if they go on while pulling back, the switch is messed which i hear happens often with these cars. I have a 97 so Im not sure if its the same switch (headlights signals, cruise) but if it is check that

this must be a common problem with the 97s... mine just did the same thing. i figured it out on my own that i had to hold the combination switch to drive it to the garage. was it a pain to fix it? the switch is 63 my fiances cost, but if its not a pain to replace, we are thinking about ripping one out of a junk car.
10:1 odds its the headlight swicth.
It's not too bad to fix.
the tilt lever needs to come off. then 2 screws on the underside of the steering column trim piece,
remove the plastic trim around the steering column, 2 more small screws for the headlight switch... unplug the old one... reverse instructions to install.
I have been having the same problem intermittently for years, but recently it became permanent. Do I have to replace the whole stalk or just a switch that the stalk goes into? What is that part officially called and how much is it usually for a new one? I have a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire GT. Thanks!
Its like 8 bucks at a junkyard... the whole assembly will come out per the instructions above, just make sure to get one with cruise if your car has it. If you really want to go to the dealer for it you can. The correct term is multi-function switch i believe.

hit up Rockauto.com or GMpartsdirect. Those are always good places to start for parts and part numbers. Usually reasonable prices too, much cheaper than a stealership.
its as Jordan said, "multi-function switch" under 'electrical switch & relay'. Just put in your year make model and it'll pull up a really clean, easy to use list of parts with pitcures and pn's.
I know on the cars with DRL's people actually cut that dark blue wire and ground it out. Thats what i did to make my DRL's turn off so I could run HID's.
