96 ln2 stock cam

I just recently purchased a 1996 cav LN2 with a five speed. when i bought it, it had a seized engine... the previous owner told me that she thought she never had to change the oil... anyway, i buy the car for $200, one hell of a deal. the body and interior are cherry, and the trans only has 86k on it. i had to completely rebuild the engine, as the timing tensioner disintegrated, clogging the oil passages, causing a rod bearing to spin. not a pretty thing, but hey, i like a challenge. the engine now has all new components in it, new crank, new pistons, new lifters, new bearings, and a new cam. which leads me to the reason why i posted this here. anyone know what teh (*&% gm was thinking when the decided to take a piece of 3/4" tube, press some shoddy lobes on it and call it a cam? the rebuild kit i bought came with all gasgets and o-rings, new pistons, new bearings, a new oil pump, freeze plugs, new lifters, and a new crane cam... for less than $400...
