Detailed instruc. 4 rod bearing replacement asap!!
Monday, March 27, 2006 12:17 AM
I know I just posted this same topic recently. I posted it again because I need some more info asap. This is my only car and only source of transportation, so I really need some help right away. I'm almost sure my #3 rod bearing went out on me yesterday. I need some detailed instructions on how to replace my # 3 rod bearing. I also need to know about how long this should take to do. I only have a couple of day to get this all done. I own a 2000 z auto. As alway you guys have been a great help and save me lots of money. Thanks very much for any help!!

Mike, this may help although it covers engine

removal for the push rod engine :

Something most don't understand, when a crankshaft

bearing goes bad, it's certain that the crankshaft

must be removed and serviced. Not just the bearing.

Bearings are soft. They imbed gritty impurities in the

oil. Then they grind away at the crankshaft. A crankshaft

will show much more wear than its bearings.

So far from what I gathered. That sounds about right. I need to remove the crank and have it turned and then replace the rod bearing. I just need to know how to do all of this.

Buy the repair manual for your car, that will give you step by step instructions for your individual vehicle. If you need the car back and you can afford it then check on a crank kit instead of turning it and getting bearings. What makes you think you have a rod bearing out anyway?

Mike, in the back of your owners' manual is the website
for Helms Publications where you can order a factory
service manual. That's where I got mine for 2002 Cavaliers.
Cost was $120 plus shipping.

I hope that I never have to use mine for a major repair
like you're facing with your 2000 Z24.

Factory service manual will give you the help that you're
looking for.
