im replacing the clutch on my 2000 cavalier. im at the part where i need to split the transmission but dont have enough room to unless i remove a plate. the plate runs under the car from one side to the other and uses the same size bolts as those used on the engine mounts. i want to know if i can remove it or if its needed to support the engine bay.

sounds like this plate is the subframe but i have no idea if it is i dont think you should remove it.
