When i got my exhaust done last year i had to cover up a port on the engine block,to the right of the intake manifold since it sounded like a tractor. My buddy just got his full exhaust done , almost the same set up as me and he has to do the same thing. Im just wondering what this port is?what does it do?why it would make this noise when i got the exhuast done?and if n e one else had to cover it up?

you bought a 96-98 2.4 header with the Egr tube. Next time, search before buying, it will save you some headache.

I am confused, that is the front of your motor. What would the intake side have to do with the exahust?
The exhaust manifold has a small pipe that route some exhaust in a port in the head and it comes out in front where it goes in the intake manifold on the 96-98 2.4.

Ah. I see now. I guess I never ran into that problem since I never got an intake. I learned something new.
yeah i have a 2.2 96 and it came without that EGR set up however the plastic hoses for the emission layout were broken and making a EGR engine code at the wreckers there were 5 cars with the EGR set up which was good cause i just broke off the line i didn't need. Thats where that hole belongs too

right on guys thanks just want to know what it was. I knew what kind of header to get but i guess the dumass i ordered off the net sent me the wrong one. Im pretty sure it said 99-01 2.4, but it proved to be wrong.

yeah i did alittle look up and the 2.2's have two types of EGR 1. linear egr (elctronic) 2 . presssure egr (vaccum egr) i'm thinking the 2.4's are the same...shouldn't you have one of them on there? unless your doing some custom work on the motor? you have a engine light on?
