lights problem

Not sure If I should post this in here. Anyways I tried to put in a ballast that came off an BMW E46/M3. It's bi-xenon with the low and high beam capabilities. On the ballast there is a socket for the 9006 to plug into. When I did that for the passenger side the D2S bulb came on slightly but kept flickering like a strobe light. So, I disconnected it and plug back in the original 9006 bulb and when I turn the lights on the low and high beam come on at the same time but are both very dim on the passenger side. And the driver side's low beam is dim as well when the highs are on. What do i need? I did a search and saw that people bought wiring harness kits and/or relays for their HID setup. Do I need the same and if so what kind? and how would i set it up? BTW I have a 96 cav. Thanks in advance!

1) you need to disable your DRL's

2) dont mount the ballast to any metal part of the car, it grounds it out.

Why do i need to disable the DRL's when they come on only with the hig hbeams and not the low beams? Just curious cuz I thought it wouldnt effect the low beams. When you say ground ou the ballasts what do you mean? like will the ballast not work if you do mount them on metal? I ask cuz I plugged in the ballast while it was touching a metal piece of the car. Thanks for the help!

DRL's are lower then low beams in light output, and every single thread on the subject tells you you HAVE to disable them for your hids to work correctly.

Did you have the ballast on when you touched metal? Most likely your not that dumb.

Im not calling you dumb, in any sense.

You passanger side headlight harness controlls your DRLs for both headlights. Your driverside is blinking because its not recognizing the lack of your DRL's for the lack of a better explaination. That blinking is the DRL relay at work.

I suggest do a search for the 1800+ threads on this subject.

my fault I just read the DRL disable write up and didnt know that you had to disable them for the retrofit. Thanks. Actually I did have a corner of the ballast that touched some metal when I plugged in the 9006 socket. The rest was laying on top of a towel. Is that a serious problem? If this sounds dumb, cuz this is my first retrofit. I thank you for answering my questions!
