Does anybody have a PCM pinout for a 97 2.2 Cavalier?
My cooling fan is not turning on. The fan works with a jumper between the power terminals of the relay.
The relay has a constant +12 applied to one of the relay coil terminals, and the coil terminal other is controlled by the PCM via a open or closed ground signal.
If I connect the PCM signal to ground the fan comes on.
The PCM signal will get up to about 11v open circuit, but as soon as I plug in the realy it drops to 0v.
Essentially I have narrowed it down to the PCM itself (or the wire in-between). But I don't know what wire on the PCM is the relay control.
well the fan only comes on right before an overheat and when the AC is on, so you might be tring to fix something thats normal.
Hmm, that's interesting.
Does the fan come on even for a moment when the key is turned on?
I have never seen or heard the fan turn on.
I don't have A/C....
I suppose I could use a resistor in the place of the temp sensor to fool the PCM intothinking the car is overheating. That way I will be able to see the fan turn on.
Yeah, without A/C, the engine has to get REALLY hot for the fan to come on.
Is your car actually overheating or are you just concerned because you haven't seen it come on?
It turns out I was just over-reacting.
I let my car idle for about 10-15 min and the fan finally kicked on.
The temp gauge was over 3/4... and I could smell antifreeze slightly.
I wonder why chevy engineered it this way. I would feel more comfortable with it kicking on a little bit earlier.
I might make a circuit (a simple parallel resistor) to fool it into coming on sooner.
