My cavalier will drive fine for awhile, but sometimes the oil light comes on and the car just shuts off. It will start and idle fine in Park, and Neutral. But as soon as i go into gear it shuts off. Does they cavalier have some sort of kill switch on the oil pressure qwitch? the oil is full, i verified on the dipstick. Any ideas?
pretty weird never heard of such a thing man hope someone can help ya its the oil pressure light and NOT the light that says CHECK OIL?
prolly the torque converter lockup solenoid..... i think you have to remove the trans side pan to get to it or you could just unplug it there should be a little sensor on the trans at the top in the front unplug and you should be good to go.
nothing
mine used to shut off when i shifted to reverse sometimes and the battery light would come on. I changed my battery and it hasn't done it for awhile.
is your oil filter on tight? did you lube the seal on the filter last time you changed it? is the oil release bolt tight?
I had the same situation. Immediately get ur car checked because i ignored it for a couple of monthes and my connecting rod snapped....and there went my engine.

This is what I was going to say as well. I remember a mini-van when I worked for AAMCO transmissions came in doing the same thing. The owner had replaced SOOoooo much stuff and nothing fixed it when someone told him of this. So he had it towed in and we replaced a $35.00 burned out solinoid. He spent literly thousands he didn't need to all because he was sure he could fix it himself. Get it checked out by a shop its the cheapest way in the long run. Just my .02
