Removing 00 strut mount

How do you remove the top nut on the front strut assembly on a 00 cavy? 95-99 is easy cause I can get offset wrenches down in there but because of the shape off the metal on 00 I cant. Help.

Thanx, Matt

Impact wrench. Do it while the car is on the ground so you don't just spin the strut shaft.

When I was in a jam (no impact), I used a pair of skinny needle nose vice grips. Put the wrench on first, then used the vice grips to hold the strut shaft, and lucky for me it worked

Was a difficult procedure though.....

There has to be a "correct" way to do it besides the impact wrench. Do they make a special tool or somethin?

there is a correct way. you use a hollow ratchet on the nut and a regular socket and ratchet on the strut shaft

Different struts have different methods of securing the rod from the top and some, like the Koni Sports with the adjuster on top, have none at all.

For my Koni Specials, I'd put an impact socket over the nut and put an allen key down the middle of it to hold the rod, which has an allen socket on top. Then I'd use vice grips to turn the socket.

Ideally, you'd want a socket with a hex shape on top like most spark plug sockets have, but I've never seen any on sale. I know they exist, but never found any.

You can't put a wrench on the nut because of the shape of the mount. On other cars and, I think, on the 95-99 mounts you can do that, but not on these.

Impact wrench is really the best way to go.
