Hey Guys,

Just noticed in my 99 Sunfire the gas gauage goes up and down. Now, it doesnt go up and down a whole lot, but enough for me to tell a difference. I could go fill up the tank, it be on F for about 10 minutes and notice its a notch down, then 10 minutes later back to F. Or if I'm running low, it will drop all the way to the bottom, check engine light will come on, then it will go back up and light will go off. What do I need to do to get this fixed? Thanks again.

i dont know why the check engine light would come on i would have that read first. sounds like fuel sender tho which involved dropping the tank.

He may mean a "Check Gages" light goes on. At least, that is what happens on my 00 Cavalier.

its the float in the tank that is moving up and down. the gas in the tank is moving around and that is causing the float to move, which tells your gauge to move, and when it drops below a certain level, you "CHECK GAUGES" light comes on saying to look at your gauges because you are low on gas

Yeah, sorry I meant the Check Guages light comes on. Is there anyway to stop it from fluctuating?

i was driving tonight i turned my car off it was at 1/4 tank. i turned it on 5 min later it was at 1/2tank.. lol it reminded me of this thread i dont know wut the hell is up with it i wonder if the float gets stuck somehow or anything who knows

My fuel level sending unit went out on my 00 Cavi a few years back. The fuel gage went wacky and then just stayed at 3/4.

I think there might be a TSB or recall on certain years. Check it out.

how much was a repair on that old wolf? i had mine go out on my 02.
