ETS OFF light on, no other obvious problems

Hi all..

I've got a '99 Cav 2.2 Auto and have been driving around with the ETS OFF light on for a few months now with no obvious problems with the car (other than the LOW TRAC light not coming on any more - obviously related to the ETS)..

What would people suggest as the best way to fix/diag the problem..

CEL is NOT on.. Car doesn't seem to have problems changing gears..

Looking through the forums here, it sounds like it could be the Throttle Position Sensor or the Vacuum Lines?? but both of these seem to cause the CEL to trip or hard changing of gears.. neither of which I'm experiencing..

I can try replacing the TPS, but would like to know for sure that it's likely to be the problem before going there..

Thanks for any advice!

Steve..

Assuming you're not driving in 2 or 1... and you don't have a B&M Shiftplus or Autotrans Interceptor installed (both could cause this)...

Check your fluid level. Instructions are in the FAQ in the library. http://www.j-body.org/faq//123/

I did have that problem. for me it was a vaccum line. it was the skinny vaccum by the fuel rail, .I would get TRAC OFF, followed by CEL and the cars RPM jumping around. if anyone knows what im talking about, feel free to give a better description

well my latest thing was it rained hard here my light was on for about 2days.. it was shifting kind of hard. It was the sensor on top of the tranny the smaller one. That had condensation in it. I unplugged it and dried it out good sat a blow dryer on it for a couple mins its never done it again. From what i understand though the ets light can come on for literally hundreds of reasons. I hear alot of vaccum leaks, TPS, and another popular one is the IAT sensor on your intake. whens the last time you serviced the tranny?

mine does this ever once in awhile, it jumps up to about 1000rpm at idol, then it will go away and go back down to around 800rpm

If it doesnt break then you didnt drive it hard enough!

I drive an automatic, I'll race you... 1 hand and 1 foot.

im not sure about the 2200, i should have mentioned mine was an ecotec. someone mentioned to me that particular trouble light will throw a code, im not sure if its true or not, see if you can get it scanned at autozone and see what you get.
