Service Vehicle Soon and Flashing Daytime Running
Sunday, March 19, 2006 5:58 PM
My wife's 2002 Sunfire starts and drives fine. However, tonight when we went to back out of the garage the daytime running lights flashed several times in quick succession and then the service vehicle soon light came on. There are no ODB-II codes being thrown. She said the car seems to be running correctly. Any ideas on what this could be?

Thanks in advance.

If the SVS lite is on, there will be a code. You just won't be able to read it with them with an Autozone scanner. You would need to use the Tech 2 (Gm scan tool)

If it is something with the DRL,

1. Turn on your head lights.
2. Click to the High beams. Are they both lit?
NO- Replace the bulb that has no output for high beam
YES- Replace DRL relay.

Sounds like a burnt out headlight, on Sunfire's the DRL's and high beams run on the same filament, so turn on the high beams, and see which one doesn't work.

15.3 @ 89.97mph, 14's on the way?

Looks like it's a low beam bulb out as both the high beam and dtr's are ok. I'll pick up a set of silverstar's tomorrow.

Service Vehicle Soon light does NOT mean a code is set. The Check Engine Light does.

The CEL will set a P code. Aftermarket scanners will only pick up "P" codes. A problem with the DRL will set a "B" code and trigger the SVS lite. These codes are only able to be read thru the GM Tech 2 Scan Tool. I've done it before.
