overheating

Okay gotta problem. I have a Z24 5 speed. My temp gauge goes about 1/2 inch past normal and stays. I thought at first it was the fan but it comes works. Then i thought it was the gauge or sensor but when it gets past normal I can hear the engine bog down while idling so its def. over heating. it doesn't go any further than about 1/2 inch past normal. i have a coolant leak my coolant light would come on about every few thousand miles but it hasn't come on yet. The car has about 170K miles. Thats about it I guess. Car runs good no problems besides this. Thanks guys.

When you top off the fluid, do you put in the right mixture? You could have too much coolant, reducing the ability of your coolant system to do it's job...

Check your thermostat. It could very easily be stuck partially closed and not allowing good flow of coolant...

Def get your coolant leak checked. Get a pressure check done to see if the radiator has a leak...

Did you use any of that "stop leak" junk you dump into the radiator? That stuff will clog up your entire coolant system, expecially around the heater core and the coolant channels in the motor. You might want to get the system flushed completely if you did that, or just to do it for the heck of it. Make sure you are using the right coolant too...

There are a ton of things this could be. Start with the cheap and simple and work your way up if you are just going to throw parts at it. Otherwise have it diagnosed and do the work yourself. We always hated customers like that at the shop, but it saves you a hell of a lot of money...

Good luck...
