I'm getting a new battery. I was wondering what the difference between batteries that need to add water and maintenance free batteries are? I remember when i was little, my mom was driving and it started smelling like sulfur and it totally f-ed stuff up cause she didn't know you had to add water to the battery.
Most batteries are now sealed units and can't be serviced. Its to protect the end user from getting acid all over the place. The older batteries needed to be checked for water level, but I haven't seen a battery like that in probably 10 years or more.
Now days, if the battery goes bad, you replace it.

you can still pop the tops off a maintenance free battery and check the water level and add if need be. use only distilled watter, as that is the best type to use.
it can be service as long as its not a gel cell i believe.

Ya Delco batteries are cool they'll last quite a bit and they are competitvely priced. I got a Delco professional in my car I paid 120$ CDN for it, its got a 7 year warranty too.
