Fan relay?
Wednesday, March 15, 2006 11:23 AM
So when I'm driving my car the temps are good, but when I let it sit for an extended period of time ( ie. waiting 20min in a traffic jam ) it overheats. I thought at first maybe my radiator needed flushed, but as we figured out my fan doesn't seem to be kicking on when it gets hot ( I just tested it, let it go just past the last line before the red ). The fan actually doesn't even turn on at all, not even slow. So we're thinking it's the fan relay.

I was just wondering if anyone has ever replaced theirs, and if so where is it located? How much was it? Any help would be great.

Instead of throwing parts at it, how about you do a few things first?

Is the fuse good?

Does the fan spin freely by hand?

Do you have power going to the fuse, power to the relay, power to the fan? Is your fan grounded, something opened, something shorted? Of course if the fuse is good then it normally isnt a short, because short usually blow the fuse.

well it turns out it is the motor...

we put a new relay in ( got it for free ) and it still didn't work, so we smacked the motor with a long screwdriver and it tried to go but couldn't get going...

so I bought a new motor...
