ive got a rattle under the hood of the cavi, it kind of sounds like a chain rattle or something, the weird thing is i can turn on my a/c and it will stop... anyone have any clue as to what it is and how to fix it?

Yeah, any parts store should carry them. I don't know what the cost will be, but you might want to take it to a mechanic to have it done. A/C systems are a PITA to work on. If I'm thinking correctly, the whole system will have to be discharged in order to replace the compressor, and I was always told it's dangerous to just release the "coolant" or whatever it's called into the atmosphere. After it's replaced the system will have to be recharged. I'm not even completely sure that's your problem but it seems logical since the noise stops when you turn on the A/C.

Nope. Not the whole compressor ( your close ) Its the compressors clutch. The clutch is where the belt rides and when it goes it sounds exactly like your describeing. Just replace the clutch and pulley assembly and you'll be fine. pulling the compressor means new refrigerant and that means more money. Just replace whats bad.

No you can get just the clutch and replace it. But yes you were on the right track.

and does it say in the chilton manual how to replace them?

Advance Auto or dealership. Actualy any parts store should carry them. As for a manual
telling the steps I'm sure it would but I don't know for 100%.
