fuel problems

when my car gets down to about a 1/4 tank, my guage starts going the opposite direction, it goes towards the full mark. but it only does this about 1/4 tank. I have a 99 2.2l can anyone help me on my problem?

It may be a fuel gauge sender problem, the wiring to/from sender to gauge or the ground connection at the tank!
