*****gas freeze...need opinions of all*****

Hey,

I had a small problem with my 99 fire LD9, that went away but Im still curious in order to prevent it for the future. I started my car up in the cold, and I know there was a quarter tank of gas in there, however when I moved off my driveway after not taking the car out for 3 weeks; I drove and suddenly the fuel light came on, and the gas was being shown as empty. i stumbled for awhile and began to think that it might be because the gas was frozen, it went away after 1 minute. Now I know there are products to put inside the tank that prevent gas freeze. I purchased a bottle for a buck, but when I read the back, it said only add full contents to 63 liters of gas, I think thats like 15 gallons. So now im skeptic because I know our jbody tanks only take around 30 liters. What do you guys think, is that stuff safe for the car (I hear it absorbs water). Should I pour it all in there?

Thanks

Well obviously, but my question is, would it hurt if I put the whole thing in, why? well I dont think it would be effective if I just put half, but i dont know.

put half in and it will work... basically it is alcohol that will mix with the water and melt if necessary but will also burn when the water gets sucked up... if you put the whole thing in there it probably won't hurt anything but the alcohol can be hard on the seals in the injectors... I would say for a buck poor 1/2 to 3/4 in and toss the rest....

Gas does not freeze until it's really really cold, something like -50F. The water that's
usually in small amounts is what freezes. Sounds like you had an unusually big
percentage of water in there. Alcohol, or the additive (1/2 container from your description) would break it up and if you run the tank down to almost empty the
engine will burn it as it would mix with the alcohol and the percentage will be small
enough it would be ok.

If you keep your tank more than 1/2 full of gas, you can avoid condensation problems. Good luck.

Take from someone who lives up north and has been in the snow where you could get frostbite in 3mins. The stuff your buying should be call fuel line anti-freeze normally fuel will not freeze when the tank is full you have more of a chance when the tank gets lower and lower and the temps outside. it doesn't absorb water or make your car go faster it has one thing ..to keep your tank / lines from freezin. I normally keep my tank full and once in a blue moon put the stuff in this year it hasn't been that bad. Just a little below freezing Read the back of the bottle if it says one full bottle for a full tank use that but if the bottle said 63 liters that for one full truck tank of 2 full uses for a car. The whole funny thing is they recommend using the stuff on a full tank but yeah when your down to 1/4 a tank ya want this stuff there don't over add it ether then you car will run like crap it makes the gas burn hotter (spark plugs, valves, o2 sensors) bad carbon......for what $1 use it wisely...

Get a bottle of Iso-Heet from Autozone, pour it in the tank....

Yeah, gas wont freeze up until long after you are an ice cube...you must have a TON of water in your tank. I'd have someone check that out..

It's nothing more than isoproply alcohol is all those products are! This stuff will in no way harm any thing on ur cars engine or sensors etc.Regardless of how much fuel u have this would burn thru ur combustion and not cause ONE issue. But running a good brand fuel and keeping ur tank above a half would not hurt in the temps ur in.Next time go to ur local pharmacy or walmart and spend less than a dollar for the normal rubbing alcohol does the same this minus the automotive names like dry gas etc.OK

Wow, thanks guys, I wonder if Ron Love is right about that. Well Ill say the car is a quarter liter full and starts right away. But anyone have an idea why the gas meter read E, and than jumped backt to the quarter. When I say E, I mean it went all the way down, when i was stationary (i know they move a bit when driving), and then went back up?

If u have any ? about it read the labels on dry gas or the automotive store products. It's nothing more than isoproply alcohol. It is the same just in ur local auto store with a diff name but same ingredients.
