Fan works fine, but comes on too hot
Friday, March 03, 2006 8:20 AM
1988 Cimarron, 2.8 V6: My coolant is good and my fan works fine, but if the temp. gauge on the dash is right, it's not kicking on until the coolant temp. is about 230 degrees! Isn't it supposed to come on at 180? Assuming it is correct (and I believe it is because you could easily use the car to proof bread dough with the heater on for only a few minutes), then what can I do to make the fan come on at the correct (and lower) temperature?

the thermostat opens at 180 and the fan comes on about 230, is normal.

if you want it to come on earlier, either do the fan mod, or turn your ac on.

I really do want it to come on earlier. I'm used to cars that normally stay around 160 or so unless I'm at a drive-thru or in congested traffic, and I start to worry as soon as it goes past the middle of the gauge. Where can I find instructions for this fan mod?
