misted windows
Wednesday, March 01, 2006 9:08 AM
I have Pontiac Sunfire 2000, auto, engine 2.2L.
Just very recently it started to happen when I stop on the traffic light or other occasions and staying for a while all my car's windows are getting instantly wet from the back to the front one. I'm like blocked inside not having any vision to drive further. After a while when I drive further all wet are instantly disappearing and all windows are clean again.

The mechanic identified it as a heater core problem and replaced it. But, today when I was driving it happened again. I called him and he doesn't know what to think.

I would appreciate if anybody could advise anything.

Thanks

Clean the windows. You need to get the residue off.

Thanks for the response, Shifted.

But, what do you mean to clean the window? How can I clean it if I need to drive further and I cannot see anything? Or you mean to clean the windows in general and it can help?

LOL, yes, park your car and clean the windows, I don't mean to clean them when your driving down the road.

Before you had the heater core replaced ( 1 ) Did you have heat? ( 2 ) Was there any leaking anti freeze anywhere in the car. When a heater core is replaced it normally cause of leakage when the engine gets hot so does the fluid some turns into steam when you turn on your heater the steam rise on to the windows glazing them with gumming streaking fluid.even after wiping them once or twice with cleaner. The first car i bought had this right from the driveway from the sellers house to mine there was a puddle on the pass-side and the engine temp went up ..i knew to throw on the heat to help the engine cool down abit but had no idea what a heater core was are did until my windows fogged up half way home lol. a Haynes manual and 6 hours in and a handful of left over bolts and nuts and i fix it. other than that. have the heat on full blast crack the window open a smidge when driving down the road. is there alot of rain or snow where you are? that might be a factor aswell

Thanks, Jimmaaaay.
The mechanic changed the core heater to get rid of this misting. But, it didn't help. After, he said to me that the heater was good. But, he did his job and took money from me for that. Now, he doesn't know what can cause the misting. He's guessing now it's AC (the pump).
But, probably guys above can be right I need just to clean my windows inside from the possible residual.

Stop giving that mechanic your money.

clean ur windows with the special auto glass cleaner (it works better) and use some black/white newspaper to wipe it off (Newspaper is non-abrasive and doesn't leave any streaks)

Don't get ur compressor changed or AC serviced.
