Repairing leather seats
Wednesday, March 01, 2006 9:39 AM
I just took possession of an '88 Cimarron which has leather seats, and they're really showing their age. There are a few minor splits in the leather, and I'm asking if it's something I can repair myself or if I would have to take it to a professional. Does anyone have any experience with repairing leather?

I would reccomend taking it to a professional, you could stitch them up yourself or try one of the many aftermarket repair kits. But a pro can tell you if its worth it to repair or if the leather should be replaced all together.

Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking I will take it to a professional, but it may be a few months. I'm not hard on seats though, so it shouldn't get much worse if I'm the only one who uses the car on a regular basis. The individual leather pieces on the seats are relatively small, so even if it should be replaced, I'm assuming that just that panel can be stiched out and a new one stitched in its place?

you would be correct, it its a pleated seat, they should be able to replace individual pieces provided they can find the appropriate color to match.

I think the cimmaron would look very sweet with a nice front air dam, like the datsun 510s and bimmers run.
