Where (specifically) is the VIN # located...

...on the engine? As if I was going to be asking someone to check a VIN #, could they do it without pulling the engine? Where exactly would I tell them to look?

The engine is an ld9.

Thanks,

It would only have casting number not a vin number. It'd be on the engine block itself. The head would also have a seperate casting number.

Really?

I was under the impression that the engines were tagged with a VIN # to match the car, that way one could determine if an engine had been replaced.

They used to be stamped on the block in the early days of muscle cars, hence the term "numbers matching car", but I don't know about now days.

some cars do, very few tho. I beleive you can still request it, also helps in tracking down parts, if your car gets stolen, and stripped.

And to answer the original question, yes u can check a VIN without pulling an engine. It should be located near one of the bottom corners, on the windshield.

Son please, are you high on marijuana? You better shut your mouth, because you
probably drive a HONDA !

The .V.ehicle .I.dentificantion .N.umber (VIN) Is stamped into a metal plate fastened to the dashboard on the driver's side -it's visable through the windshield. aswell if you open up your wallet and pull out your insurance card or ownership and look at the letters and number that add up to 17 digits that will be your VIN number. There's a engine code label behind the timing cover and also stamped onto the engine block near the oil filter housing and below the starter assembly on the 2.3L and 1996/1997 2.4L .1998 and later it was located on the end surface of the cam cover while the VIN is stamped on the bottom of the engine block in front of the transaxle extension . The 8th digit would be your engine type that came from the factory exmaple your 2000 z-24 came with a code ( T ) meaning 2.4L OHC. Your your car was made for 2000 so the 10 digit is the year the car was made which would be ( Y )

8-Digit engine codes.............(4)>>>>.2.2L OHC..........(T)>>>>.2.4L OHC...........
...(D)>>>>2.3L OHC

10- Digit Model years ......(S)>>>>(1995) ......(T)>>>(1996).....(V)>>>(1997).....(W)>>>(1998).......(X)>>>>>(1999) ......(Y)>>>>2000......

Hope it helps
