OTC Code readers??

Hi Guys,

I will soon be in the market for an affordable code reader/scanner. I have done a little research and these seem to be real reputable. I have seen other brands at places like Canadian Tire and Princess Auto, but I figure for a few extra dollars why not go with a well know name.

My question is concerning which one to get, and why does it say they are good for domestic cars and light trucks? Are the heavy duty truck line different that you need a different reader to scan codes? ( 2500HD and 3500HD ) I dont own a HD truck yet, but when I do finally buy, I dont want to have to buy another scanner. Also, all of our verihles are OBDII, except for my Dads 1988 GMC 1500.

absolutely nothing wrong with otc stuff. really good products, they make alot of the specialty tools for dealers, It will work fine on the 2500/3500hd series, these are still considered "light trucks", alot of the bigger stuff (5500/6500) uses izuzu or cat engines, and otc doesn't support that. Yes you are correct, everything from 1996 and up is obdII. Hope this helps.
