Well, i have had my experence with cranks shaft sensors.I have had one replaced on my 89 Z-24, and one on my 99 Z-24. I am not sure on the coil pack, I only replaced one coil on my 89 Z-24 and it was a 2.8 multi-port, not a 2.2.

The only way that I knew that the crank shaft sensor was not working was because the car wouldn't start when the engine was warm. For instance. I would drive my car home from school and then 20 min.-hour later, it would't start again untill the motor was completely cold, or had cooled off, but if I turned the car off and ran into the house or somthing and then started it again, it would start right up again. The car would crank over, but it would not start untill the car cooled down.

Try this link to see if it answers any of your questions.

Note that on some systems the CRANK POSITION SENSOR triggers BOTH the spark AND the fuel injectors, so if you have no spark and no fuel it seems to point to the CPS.

The CPS is usually at the back of the engine along with the coils

Hope it helps anyway
