Radiator Replacement and Capacties help needed!!!!
Wednesday, February 15, 2006 9:06 PM
I have a 98 Z24 and need to replace my radiator. I let the car sit in storage and alot of the stuff has gone bad....I am trying to get her back in good running condition and one of my last tasks is to put in the new radiator and hoses. I have all the parts I need....but need to know if there is anything I need to know about the install? Is it pretty basic or a pain? Also.....what is the capacity.for coolant and water.....how much of each and what kind of coolant is best? Thanks for any help. I haven't touched the car in about 2.5 years unitl a month ago. I already have done a new battery, alternator, window motors, oil change, transmission flush, wipers, spark plugs....you name it. I even have some new 18" rims on the way and some new ideas to get her back into the show scene. Any help would be much appreciated!!! Thanks everyone!

well i just did this on my car.
Radiator i got new for like 90.00 shipped from ebay Radiaor itself you have to take off the black plastic piece of course, the headlights, MAKE SURE YOU PULL THE AIR BAG FUSE AND DISCONNECT BATTERY

Then the airbag sensor thing and hood latch like 2- 10mm bolts each
Then the front support 2 10mm bolts on top and i think 2 15mm on bottom.
Then theres a couple small 7mm screws attaching the AC condensor to the radiaor. 2 10mm bolts that hold the rad. to the car on top.
Unclick the fan there maybe a screw on te bottom towards the midd of the rad. thats holds it on. My new rad didnt hae a place to screw it back but it clips on and stays firmly anyway. I think thats about it should take about an hour or so for everything.

As for coolant you should use a 50/50 mix of DEXCOOL.. after adding the coolant to the top turn the car on and let it run until its warm unscrew the cap to releive pressure and to bleed it. let it cool and add coolant if needed - should be good to go

If you have an auto i know i had tranny fluid leaking for awhile from the rad. It was kind of a PITA I had it apart several times and tightened it. I just wrapped the threads with plumbers tape and put it back on as tight as i good without doing any damage and seems to be fine now.
