Engine shaking bad
Wednesday, February 15, 2006 3:12 PM
Well i put in the new "perforamce" mounts and it shakes really bad now. So i left it go for a week and a half to break them in. Then tonight they entire car, every time we can to a dead stop, would shake so bad the entire dash and steerin wheel would look like a gaint viberator. The steerin sheel shakes worst then my freakin subs do and u can hear it knockin down on the firewall or somethings. What the hell would make an engine shake so bad? Swear i thought the dash was goin to fall apart on me and the steerin wheel fall off it was that bad.

take the lower one out if you still want to have some performance without the rattle. i dont have them but i heard just with the upper one it isnt so bad. maybe sure you installed the mounts correctly start the engine and pop the hood n check it out make sure its not moving all over the place

i see you are from Dornsife, in Pa? if you are, then the current cold temps we have now dont help matters much. and it takes more than a week or 2 to break them in

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!

yea im from Dornsife, PA. Where are u at? But yea it will be alright for like a couple days when its cold as hell out but then today it got up to 50 and it started actin up. What could cause and engine tho to shake serverly like that on just stock mounts? ill change some stuff and see if it helps.

an engine is going to shake a certain amount. The reason you're feeling is shake now is because the mounts are now solid, keeping the engine in place, causing the body to absorb the vibration from the engine. Its a setback to installing the mounts, everyone will tell you that.

I was expecting some badass shaking, that looks very minor to me, even with the drink/change on the dash...doesn't look that bad, might be in person though

I put the new mounts in my 2000, thats not bad at all. Turn your A/C on, if the change in the cup holder starts rattling and the CD Player (Aftermarket Eclipse Deck Might I add) starts to skip, then complain ... you might want to look into the oil problem though.

The aftermarket lower mount I had in my old sunfire scared the crap outta me! I went to a friend's house, put in the lower mount. Went to start the car up to go get pizza, and it felt like the motor was going to fall out!!! It was a 1995 Sunfire SE.

However, the aftermarket upper and lower mounts I have in my Sunfire now (1995 Sunfire GT, 2.3) (mounts from RSM) don't really vibrate at all. (well no more than normal with the exhaust I have and such lol).

Different mounts are going to have different effects on your car. Like I said, the first mounts I had could rattle your teeth out of your head... and felt like the motor was going to fall out (don't remember which mount it was)... but the ones I have now (upper insert, lower mount) I didn't notice when we put them in.

As for the oil leak... boy do I feel your pain. My car's been leaking oil since I got it almost 3 years ago. PART of my oil leak problem was the hose going from the crank case to the little black box on the intake manifold (oil separator?)... the hose had a hole in it. I replaced that... seemed to be better. Nope... STILL leaking oil... it's just not AS bad as it was before... and I'm THINKING it's the crankshaft seal... but not sure. When I get a beater, I'm pulling mine off the road, going to rebuild the 2.3 HO motor I have, put that in... get rid of the kit that's on there now... and get a kit that's not so darn low (it's annoying not being able to get over speed bumps without scraping)... and that's URETHANE!!! New tranny (even though it doesn't need it). That way I know it's going to be fine and not die on me when I start college in the fall.

Check your belt... is there oil on your belt at all? You COULD be leaking oil from somewhere and it could be hitting your belt and getting sprayed all over the place (like was happening with mine). if you're leaking oil from a place where it hits your belt, the belt will spray oil ALLLLL over the place.
