i hit 9 psi in my z24 cavalier and the check engine light came on, i had it checked and its the o2 sensor and the knock sensor, please someone tell me what that means? the car still runs fine but is that bad? how do i fix it? thanx
Mike
it did not detonate, it made no noises, is there anyway the knock sensor could have fried? cuz it runs fine no noises, and runs fine
Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)
and
O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 1 Sensor 1
and
Evaporative Emission Control System Malfunction
those are the codes it threw
my air/fuel guage still works, and where is the knock sensor located?
knock sensor is located on the drivers side of the engine bout 4" below the exhaust manifold.
check all of your wiring for the o2 sensor your problem may be past where you hooked up the a/f ratio gauge
please tell me you have some way of watchign knock retard not just listening for detonation??? i didnt check your profile but if youdont your asking for trouble!!! im running 6psi and get 5+ degrees of KR you need to know this and fix it if theres an issue(im still working on fixing mine)
no i have no way of telling knock, how do i fix it? how do i tell if i even have any?
cross posting is the devil
i use an aeroforce scan guage ($200) there are other gauges out there im not sure of the brands. to fix you may need colder sparkplugs, less restrictive exhaust, some way to cool incoming air charge intercooler / water injection. but first you need to know how much knock your getting! i would look into this asap as all it takes is one time detonating to break your piston, and sometimes that pice of the piston will eat your turbo too so you need to do some reasearch. i dont get on here much but feel free to email or pm me and ill see if i can help you more
also you maybe running lean this can cause knock too i believe. but then again you might not even have knock it may be a faulty sensor or wiring. ok im done thinking aloud
and "Inari" cross posting is bad but detonation is the devil
ok so now i know what and where the knock sensor is, when i swapped my motor, i did not plug it back in cuz the sensor was different. at the time i didnt know what the sensor was and it ran fine without it (no check engine code) i drove it for a month and now it throws a code after not being hooked up for 3000 miles.
do you still have the old engine to grab the sensor off of? this is extremely important to have when using forced induction!
if not PM me i have a '99 2.4L sitting in my garage right now i can snag the sensor for you just let me know. you can have it for the price of shipping
i have the sensor also but the motor i have is out of a 97 the sensors are different. the one on my 99 was black and had a bolt threw it. the 97 was a gold unit the wires were different so i could not hook them up. what do i need to do?
i dont know without looking at it... maybe you can try to get a pic of it? i know its a hard spot to get at tho
