I figured this would be the best forum to put this in. Everyone, go check to make sure the lines running from your brake master cylinder to your ABS pump is not rubbing on the bottom of the master cylinder. Mine was and i was driving down the interstate and lost all brake pedal and bumped a car in the rear. I found out later that the steel braiding on the line was rubbing on the master cylinder causing it to wear a hole in it. PLEASE I urge you to go check your brake lines so you dont get hurt!!!!!
i think you should let a dealer know so they can possibly do a recall

true but sometimes in a panic situation you don't think of things like "oh, I have an E brake"
either way, something shady is going on, and you should let the dealer know about it...mabey its a major flaw affecting many J cars

actually i did use the ebrake and down shifted my auto, i still bumped the car in front of me. it was only like 15 mph but i bumped them. glad they were ok. ill see if i can talk to the dealer tommorrow. i gotta find my old line to show them.
thats interesting, i'll have to check my parents sunfire tomorrow.
please do, i have the line in my hand now and i can see where it is filed down on the hose, all the braids are angled and somewhat smooth. Mines a 2000 but hey it could happen worse to othere cars or cars without motor mounts.
Hmm, I may have to check this out. Thank you.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
Hey Vincent, what year are you talking about? In my '96, the ABS is side-mounted to the master cylinder and the lines run out the side of the ABS. No feeding under the bottom at all. Gotta be a late model J-body.
Good call dude, I've got a 2000 cavi coupe and I got the same thing. After I read the post I went and looked....sure as @!#$ it's rubbing on the damn master cylinder. Thanx for the heads up
Dart, i think your car is ok, while making a replacement line we looked at a 95-99 cavalier and it was a different master cylinder set up. it must be for the 2000 on up years. mines a 2000. im going to take some fuel line rubber tubing and put it around both. ill just slice it all the way down and wrap it around. same concept as on motocross bikes.
Wow, thanks Vincent. I'll check mine out!
Anyone know about the 03 + if the master cylinder and ABS lines are routed the same way as 2000-2002's were?

damn!!!....mine's just barely touching, but there's no sign of wearing. I'm gonna wrap some padding on it just in case...DEFINITELY report that @#$%. it could save someones life. Thanks for the heads up!!

Can someone post up a picture showing where we are supposed to be looking at? It would help others out who aren't sure of where to look exactly.
Thanks

yes please post a pic........

my lines arent rubbing but they are very close. possibly as close as 1/8 inch in one place. my car is an 04 Cav LS sport.

Guys if it does give out, DONT fix it if you get in an accident,. GM is trying to screw me out of htem fixing my car since i replaced the line. They dont send an engineer to inspect my broken line since they dont inspect parts, they inspect the car. I was like wtf why dont you check the brake line? well because we look at the overall vehicle and since you replaced the line we cannot check the vehicle. I was like what if i put the line back on and then call back, well sir you already called and said you replaced it. they pissed me off big time today. i was transfered to 10 different people in 10 minutes. and then i got a supervisor and then another supervisor, and none of them would help me. The one lady wouldnt even let me talk to her supervisor "since she didnt have one" everyone works for someone else in GM. They are always finding a way to screw ya.
Hey vince, I think you should get a laywer on this sh**, just to say F OFF GM.
Just my two cents.
im thinking about it actually. i told the supervisors that my lawyer will be contacting them
Very good idea, maybe after that, they might put up a recall.
Anyone take a pic of the area in question?
