Water Pump Replacement
Friday, February 10, 2006 1:36 PM
How much is the AVERAGE price to replace water pump. I've been hearing figures between 200 and 500. My car is a 2000 sunfire, 2200, with about 95000 miles.
I asked the shop down the road(nice guy, helped me out before) and he quoted me a $325.

Also, is this a hard job to do? I was figuring of doing it myself, but have little knowledge..... I've changed breaks, oil, and changed my throttle body myself, but thats the extent of my knowledge.

ANY help would be appreciated. The car has been over heating, and this is something that must be done. THANKFULLY, we tested for a head gasket leak and nothing came up, so i guess the engine is ok....

its easy if you have a 2200. 325 is way too much. i bought my pump from pep boys, it was 35 bucks for a bosch pump and took me like 25 mins to change. took the passenger side tire off, removed the inner lining and the tensioner pulley is right there. loosen it to loosen the belt than take the 3 bolts off the pump and remove.

sounds like a good plan, i just have to remember the placement of the belt, correct?

The placement of the belt is shown on a sticker somewhere out in the open in your engine bay.

But yeah, i found out the hard way, its about $40 for the pump and maybe an hour worth of time. I pay'd $500 when mine blew up, i was in a rush, out of state, i had no other choice. Damn i wish i knew it was easy to do.
