Ticking noise
Friday, February 10, 2006 2:19 PM
I did a search and didn't really come up with an answer to my problem. Whenever I start my car no matter if it's warm or cold, there is a ticking noise coming from my engine. I can't tell exactly where at but when my car is in park and is running it is ticking. I have no idea what it could be. Anybody have any suggestions of what it is? What I can do to fix it?

I think i'll just take it to a mechanic or have my bro in law look at it. He's good with cars.

But how would I go about tightening? And what?

Most of the 2.2 and 2200's do this; once you get so many kilo's or miles, its normal, lol.

well. all you need is a case of beer (or in my case a 12 pack of my favorite soda) a new valve cover gasket, and understanding in cars, a torque wrench (you should be able to rent one somewhere) and you tighten the rocker arm nuts to 22 ft.lbs. thatl fix it. have fun

It's nothing to worry about. I talked to my old shop foreman at the GM dealer and he said all 2200 engines do it. No big deal

what you can do to remedy this in the summer time, is run a higher grade oil in your engine, my mom's 99 cav 2200 started doing that, so the last oil change i did i put in 10w30, and no more tapping

ya i reccomend that stuff, we use it in our dirt race car, and allot of @!#$ has gone better in it such as oil pressure at the end of a race stays up, and the oil is still rather clean looking after three races (our oil chang intervals)
