Its really not easy....
First, you have to pull the crank out and have the journals checked for roundness. If they are out of round you either have to find a new crank, or have it machined. If you have it machined then you have to find bigger bearings. You'll also need to pull that piston and rod out and check the rod journal for roundness, if it is out of round it has to be replaced. Depending on how bad the knock is, it may have rounded out the cylinder, and that needs to be checked.

now its time to start figuring out what i need and how to go about it.
would it be cheaper to get a use/refurbished engine?
Yeah check out ebay and the local junkers.
You won't have to tear down the engine, measure and put it back together.
it would only tak you a day or 2 to swap a motor. it would take at least a weak or longer to rebiuld the one you have. i would go for cheper and quicker. but thatz MO
i've done this on other types of cars and it is def not a fun project.
if your going that far you might as well rebuild the engine. Drive something else for a little while so you can pull your old engine. building from the block up isn't all that hard, but trying to do what your talkin about is kinda out of place if you havn't built an engine before. if you decide to build, i hope you have a little bit of money saved cause you'll want to change some things internally hehe watch that bug
well i've never done it to a ld9 or any4cy for that matter so there might be some special attention in the seals needing to be looked at, but i can def tell you you'll be taking the oil pan and the head off of her. thats what really made my projects so bad, them cylinders being tapered and having to take them out of the top is where a lot of your time is spent. i dont know any of the tolerances for our engines, but shifted hit the basics with it, besides, any machine shop will be able to look up those clearances no problem\
