So I have a fairly moderate vibration from 65mph on up and it's really beginning to bug me... I have taken my car to Mr. Tire and had them balance and rotate my tires, I've checked for correct pressure and they're not leaking air... The guy at Mr. Tire told me I might be slightly misaligned due to uneven tire wear, but I think the uneven tire wear on the outsides of the tires are from my cornering habits... I get it whether I'm in gear or in neutral, accelerating or decelerating.... mainly feel it in my right leg which rests against the center console during driving and in the steering wheel...
what else other than what I have checked could be causing my vibration?
thanx
alignment.
your cornering habits shouldn't effect tire wear unless you trun 90% of the time you drive the car. uneven tire wear doesn't just happen because of one single occurance ...it happens over time.
GO PATS!!!
Well my car doesn't pull to one side when I'm on the highway and do the "let go of the wheel" test... doesn't that mean my alignment can't be too far off?
wrong, outer edge of the tire wearing CAN be from cornering habbits. especially if you have stock suspension, a cause for a vibration can also be caused by a busted belt in the tire, balancing will not mend this wound. only repair for a busted belt is a replaced tire, did u feel it ANY differantly when u had your tires rotated?
are your tires chopped 9runs your hand over the tread, your you feel highs and lows constantly?) or are they worn more on outside/inside?
Well, I dont' really feel anything unusual on the tires... no high spots/low spots that you speak of... But I really dont' know if I have a feel for it, ya know? The tires are worn on the outer edges... It's getting really annoying... I've begun to avoid the highway because I don't feel safe above 55-ish.
Two questions:
1.) If your car is still under warranty, do they charge a diagnosis fee?
2.) If I've added an intake, header and cat-back, that won't "void the warranty", will it?
1. if they find the cuase to be of a warantable concern, yes diag is free, BUT, if they find the cause is from driving hard (hardconvering, wearing outeredges rapidly) they MAY not waranty it b/vc it's not a fault
2. they SHOULDN'T, give you hassles, but i've heard it numerous times on here that it may cause problems, the issue i amy see here is that b/c you have"perfoamnce mods", they will simply assume your driving style and say it's your fault, almost garunteed. if you can make your car seem as stock as possible b4 taking it in for warranty work
forgot to add you could def have a bent rim i forgot i had one once, but when you get them balanced they will def. tell u if the rim is bent. do u remember hitting any hard potholes or anything else?
thing is, I took my car to Mr. Tire a few weeks ago because first thing in my mind was that my wheels were off balance... They did a 4-wheel balance and just sent me on my way... they didnt' say anything about a bent rim or how off-balance they were... just sent me on my way...
So I assumed that it wasn't my tires or wheels, but it had to be something else... alignment, bad wheel hub, etc...
when my car was brand new i had a frozen brake caliper...i couldn't hear it running on the rotor, but it made my car wander a little and vibrated a lot...
GO PATS!!!
If your tires are worn on the outside then you have an alignment problem for sure. If its on the outside it means your toe its pointed out too much, possible caused by loose tie rod ends or various other things. If your car is under warranty take it in and have them look at it. If its a worn part, they won't charge you. The whole goal in warranty for the dealer isn't to prevent you from getting warranty because if it is a warranty repair they're making money too. Vibration could also be cause by bad axles as well. It's probably best to just take it in and have them look at it

only time that those mods would affect your warranty is if something died in the powertrain.
they may try to argue that whatever the problem is was caused by you driving too hard BASING their statement on your modifications, but they'd have to prove that without a doubt in front of a judge (if YOU made it that serious) for them to deny warranty work.
GO PATS!!!
even if something died in the powertrain... could they deny my warranty? say for some reason my timing chain broke and it 'effed up my valvetrain... etc... they couldn't prove anything cuz the header doesn't affect anything but the exhaust system...
