ok, heres the deal... my sunfire was becoming hard to start, it seemed like something was binding when i tried to start it, well since then i threw a rod out the side of the block and just finished rebuilding another engine. i just started it up last night and it is still doing the same thing when i try to start it. sometimes it will start just fine other times the starter starts to turn and then it acts like it gets stuck. i replaced the solenoid on the starter but not the starter motor. i also reused the timing chain from the motor that threw a rod. the teeth on the flywheel are fine, i'm not sure about the teeth on the starter.
also when the engine is running now, there is a clicking type noice coming from the top of the engine i think its coming from the timing chain housing but im not completely sure.
could the whole problem be from the timing chain being loose or is it most likely the starter motor or the pinion?

Have you checked your battery?

if the clicking is from the housing, you need to get a new tensioner or you didn't set the tensioner. how old is the starter? might just be bad
battery is fine, its brand new, thanks for the input.

i can bet u u need a starter, and the clicking noise u hear is most likely a chattering actually, witch will be ur timing chain tensioner
thanks, put on a new starter and it did solve the starting problems. still havent tried to replace the tensioner yet

try sumthing, get a bottle of STP oil treatment (the really thisck @!#$, pour it in, and see if your chattering goes away for a lil bit, if it does u need a new tensioner and/or chain
