Help with code P1441
Saturday, February 04, 2006 7:23 PM
I have had my check engine light go on and off here lately, and it seems that it goes off a few starts after a fresh tank of gas, but then comes back on when you hit about 1/4 of tank left. So I too it to autozone and they said it threw up this message, emision controls code#p1441, I was wondering if anyone had a clue of what that code ment?

That number is not in my Haynes manual. Good luck.

Evaporative Emmissions (EVAP) System Flow During Non-Purge. (Chilton's book #28322, Cav/Fire 1995-00) The fuel vapor charcoal canister system is having a problem working right. Could be purge valve problem, hose, canister, tank connection that's causing a thrown code. Tank is located in the front passenger corner fender, with the PCM and horn. May be easier to lift out the headlight insted, but try from underneath first.

Hmmm I know where that is at. I guess the easiest thing to do was start with the simple thing like the hoses then go from their I guess. Where is the purge vavle at?

If memory serves, it's near, or on top, of the canister itself. There was a recall to have the PCM better waterproofed in there, and I've lost two horns to rust. It could very well be something fouled by water someway.

try the very simplest thing 1st... maybe a worn gasket on your gas cap...switch caps w/ a buddy or it's cheap enuff to change it out.

for future reference, don't "top off" your fillups, just fill until it clicks. excess gas travels to the canister & floods it.

It could be your cap leaking, or also the filler neck itself rots out at the top causing it to set a code. Also cavi/sunfires have issuses with the vent solenoid on the charcoal canister

My buddy told me the same thing about topping off the tank, which I am bad at. So I am going to try that, thanks for all of the advice, has really helped out
