Speedometer going haywire!

This is weird, once by speedometer gets past 50mph it starts to flicker. As my speed increases so does the needle. It will jump back and forth from 60 - 85 mph. I'm thinking maybe a dirty sensor? What could I check?

Maybe not the best, but at least it's American.

My uncle had a truck that would do that before, it was the speedo cable.

its called a VSS sensor....i'd pull it out and clean it up....try it mabe clean the plug in, if that doesn't work go ahead and buy the new sensor...if you don't know where its located, its on the backside beside the firewall, in the transmission, you see it , you just pull it out with one bolt and like a clasp or something ....
