Hmm, 'Spicer', as in Spicer drivetrains/transmissions? Don't some GM vehicles use Spicer products? I may be wrong, but there seems to be an underlying element here hinting at a stacked test.
ha!
and people rag on me when I say a k&n panel filter does nothing for you
Correct me if I'm wrong here. But one of the graphs shows that the K&N has the lowest restriction to flow. Isn't that what they claim. I mean you should know that its not gonna trap every particle that comes into the intake
and allow more air to pass into the engine too.
I know it lets through a lot more dust, but since when have you driven on a road that you suck in 9.8 grams of dust per min? Maybe if your everyday commute includes down the back country road for 20 miles. But if your in a dusty environment...I would think that you should know not to put a high flow filter on anything.
In the end... I have a K&N panel in my car...it does exactly what it says...it allows more air in, and it lasts forever. that is what I bought it for...I know that it ain't gonna increase my hp, Of course maybe it would have if i put the sticker on like the package said
Good Info none the less.

will be fought, but World War IV will be fought
with sticks and stones."

Hmm weird...ac delco filter the most....lets the least flow go by... K&N fitlers the least, lets the most air through...WOW WHAT A COINCIDENCE
well either way this puts the all the other filters into perspective.
BTW if you have a carbed vehicle (probly not a j-body, lol) dont run K&N, plugs up your jets. you actually need a better filter than a K&N for a carbed vehicle
Just somehting to think about.

I used to post on the BITOG forum (bobistheoilguy)
These guys are DIE HARDS when it comes to running extended drain intervals and keeping the opil clean for 15,000 mile + oil changes. They dont like the K&N over there because it doesnt filter the finest of particles as well as a paper filter does.
This graph was originated there.
Pay no attention to it, the difference seen in that chart is SO MARGINAL that its crazy to study. Guys over there, and guys like "Spicer" who I have posted to before, measure oil contanation by the smallest tiniest margin, and measure silicon levels.
Put it this way, if you run a K&N filter the entire time you own a vehicle, it will never show increased engine wear or loss of power throughout a million miles, thats HOW SMALL the margin is.
Also look at it this way, if you ever had a paper air filter that had a torn seal, was snagged, or didnt seat properly, on your car for say 3000 miles, that had let in 10x more "dirt" then a K&N over 500,000k miles would.
Guys like Spicer are CRAZY over this stuff and cant sleep at night. Honestly there are posts on BITOG where people loose sleep over what sort of air filter and oil filter they are using.
So with a passion, and with the true real life facts, please disreguard that chart. lol
Its crazy.
BTW, just to let you guys know.
We had a 1987 Toyota 4x4 with 407,000 miles on it. It was frequently abused off-road.
It had a K&N drop-in pannel filter, and we changed the oil once every 10,000 miles for the life of it. We sold it running and burning only about a quart every 5k miles.
And some more brain food:
I change my oil once every 10,000 miles on my 03 cavalier ecotec, with mobil 1 supersyn extended formula. I also have a K&N Typhoon Kit installed!! My UOAs (used oil anaylisis from blackstone labs) Says my oils is still in usuable bounds! This means my air filter is doing its job, and on a side note, also means Mobil 1 Extended Performance is an amazing oil.
Hope I cleared this up for everyone.
