96 Z24 while driving engine rev's up

Hi,
I have a 96 Z24,sometimes while driving engine rev and tach goes up to 30,000
but only for a few seconds,then return back to normal...
Has anyone had same problem or know cause.Please Advise!!

Manual or Automatic? If it is a stick it sounds like your clutch is slipping. If it is an auto then quit putting it in neutral.

It an automatic,I had filter vhanges and fresh oil put in a few months ago.

I have same car but never have that problem but sometimes at the moment that I turn the ignition key , speedometer needle goes to top and back.... or is it the rpm?? not sure now, wondering if this is normal.

If your car revs to 30,000 rpm you have big problems my friend. Is it the engine actually revving or a faulty tach?

JH,the problem comes and goes, The rest of the time it runs great and I get about
440 miles on a full tank of gas,,,

I would say check your IAC.
