Can't Jumpstart
Thursday, January 26, 2006 11:38 AM
So the battery died on my Cavy,i thought no big deal, hook up jumper cables and start it. So i hooked up the cables, turned the key, nothing, waited a bit, tried again, still nothing. Both batteries are fairly new, and have no corrosion on them at all, i tried 2 different sets of jumper cables...tried a bunch of stuff, but it seems that my car was not getting any power. Also, the dinger was dinging abnormally, and all the warning lights were flashing on and off randomly, i just assumed this was because of the extremly low battery. Am i missing something here? is there a trick to jumpstarting this car?

If the battery is DEAD, I mean completly DEAD, jumpping it will never work. Take it to Advance Auto or anyplace that offers a free check and charge and do that. See if it helps.

It also could be more then your battery being dead. Does it even click when you try to turn it over?

does it crank over at all? if it wont start hook up the jumpers leave the car with good battery runing for a little bit to help try and charge the dead battery....quick thought if you look at your connections they may be the ugliest LOOKING connection in the world but might be just perfect. try to jump it like that..if it doesnt start then pull open the fuse box where the relay is and have a friend listen for a click as you turn the key to the start postion. if you have a volt meter it would come in handy right baout now to read about how much voltage you have and if your losing voltage across your connectors. if your getting a good read on your volt meter from the battery then i would check my grounds (back of the starter, negative side of bat terminal) and clean them up what happen on my friends car the other day is he had a small oil leak and it dripped on to the starter and the liquid caused a short to ground and his car wouldnt start..i cleaned it off and it started right up....could be as easy as that
