Hey,
I put this in the maintenance section because I will be replacing my exhaust, hopefully i the spring.
2000 Sunfire, 2.2L 5spd. I would like duals, or single if it sounds nice. A nice deep bairtone sound, but not so loud that you have to crank the tunes to not hear it. What brand? Borla?
Thanks alot in advance.

This actually has been covered a lot in the Performance Forum, especially lately, so that's a good place to search through also.
If you REALLY want a pre-made kit, Magnaflow has great single and dual exit systems in 2-1/4", little on the pricey side in the $600 range, not to rediculously loud, and not too rediculously deep. Borla I would not recommend because their systems as far as I know are discontinued and even if you can find one they are only 2" diameter piping, so there is little performance focus, also real expensive. Sounds nice though. Thermal and Vibrant also have systems that appear decent, but are single. The RK Sport system, both single and dual, are OK systems, but not as deep as many like it, and REALLY needs a resonator/glasspack to keep it from sounding raspy. Stay far away from Pacesetter though even though it's cheap.
I like dual, but there's no performance advantage, they cost more, and it's just extra weight for nothing. The duals do look badass though...
Here's what I would do:
- Go to exhaust shop and tell them you want 2-1/4 piping from the converter all the way back. Make sure they know it needs to be
Mandrel Bent piping. If they don't do mandrel, then go for
Compression Bent pipe. ABSOLUTELY NO CRUSH-BENT PIPE!
$200-300, PRICE VARIES!
- Go to Summitracing.com and buy a Dynomax Thrush Magnum Glasspack, the one with 25" overall length. Search for Part # WLK-24201. Have the shop weld that in behind the converter's flange. That will keep the tone smooth and slightly quieter.

http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=2&i=339698&t=339698 Poke around there and find the sound of muffler you like. Personally, I'm looking for the same sound you are, so I'm going with the Borla Pro XS muffler. Borla Boomer and some Magnaflow mufflers are good too. I like Borla better

$80 muffler + $60 tip = $140
TOTAL = $460
I have all of that stuff except for the muffler and tip, but I expect the whole system to sound BADASS. I'm not doing a dual (so that list is not for dual), becuase it would cost more since there's more piping needed, more labor time, more welding, you need to buy another muffler which isn't cheap, and new hangars need to be fabrcated. All that for no advantage other than looks.
Any more questions let us know.
Hey,
Actually, after thinkong, and reading your reply I am going to stick with a single system, like the one you have mentioned here. If you get yours done before me, ( atleast spring for me, ) let us know how it sounds!!
Thanks, and take care,
If I have more questions, I wil ask for sure!!
