hey i got some creeking when i turn left coming from my right side. im thinking its my cv joint so i want to check it.
I have the same problem man. Anyone know how hard it is to replace it. I want to do it soon but I think I'm going to wait until I get my whole new suspension.
Stick your head under the car and have a look at the CV joint boot, if it's torn and there's grease everywhere under the car like it was on mine, it's toast. If it's not that obvious you could jack the front of the car and turn the wheels listening to the joint, try it with the wheels turned the way it is when you hear the noise and see if you can pinpoint it, might help to have a freind help with this.
If you do need to replace the CV joint, you might as well replace the whole axle. This involves draining the tranny fluid, removing the lower strut bolts to free the steering knuckle from the axle, and pulling the axle. It took me about an hour or so in the driveway, just make sure you have the right size socket for the axle nut.
15.3 @ 89.97mph, 14's on the way?
This creeking sound when turned left, does it keep creeking repeatedly while the wheel turns...or just when you turn left it creeks once.
If it just creeks once maybe twice and not repeatedly..i'd be thinking it's suspension related, like your front top mounts or coil insulators
otherwise repeatedly would sound like a cv joint
hey its me i went down to my favorite Auto zone and spoke to the manager about it . he told me to take the wheels off and while its on the jack stands try twisting the wheels if they turn ? its the tie rods. so i did it. i can turn the wheels with my hands. so i guess its the tie rods.?.? but for some reason i thought i could turn the wheels when its in the air anyways? do you guys have any comments?
oh yeah thanks for the help
what he meant was...grab each side of the wheel...now try wiggling the wheel by pulling both of your arms...not spinning the wheel, if it wiggles side to side it's a tie rod, if it wiggles up and down its a ball joint.
but these don't cause creeking noises, only knocking sounds
ok what i meant was that i can turn the wheel left or right. not easily but i can do it. do you think its not the tie rod? what about tie rod bushings? are these things common problems?
Turn the wheel all the way and then back up. If its bad it will pop.
well this sucks! i went down to get my car looked at today and they couldnt find anything wrong. they cheched the bearings the brakes the struts the bearings the cv joints the tie rods, EVERYTHING! they couldnt find anything that would cause the creek. maybe its something more structure related? I just dont know! i guess ill just wait until something breaks.

^ Yup!! That's a perfect way to check it. My lil' Geo Metro (Bob... the Geo Metro... not to be confused with Lucky the Go Metro), has a bad CV on the passenger side... but it only knocks in reverse with the wheel cranked all the way over. The rest of the time it's fine.
Just a matter of time tho....
cv joints just back up with the wheel turned all the way to the right, clicking popping is cv. if no noise repeat to the right, should give you an idea
probably already mentioned but it could even be wheel bearing with car on ground just grab that wheel on the top and push it away from you and pull back hard as you can back and forth, if theres obvious camber (the top of the wheel moves back and forth meaning theres play in the bearing)nothing in the suspension is moving then its a bearing
tie rods were already explained, which i have a bad passenger side inner tie, just hope not the pinion, supposedly you have to drop the frame
ur cars lowered, it will make sounds.
