Does my stock '02 Starfire have some sort of rev limiter? In neutral or park, the tach goes to 4,000 RPM and then backs off when you depress the pedal. But when you floor it in drive, the engine will wind right up to redline with no problem.

Generally, yes, both in Park and Neutral. Usually around 3500 RPM or so. Not a good idea to hold it there for any length of time. The fuel is leaned out/cut off to keep the engine from reving. Problem is, it's also the fuel that helps keep the piston head and top of cylinder cool. You can eventually do damage to the piston head.

You're both wrong, it's exactly 4,000rpm. Read your owners manuals.
You're not supposed to sit in neutral or park and rev it. If you're trying to show off, there's better ways to waste your time

That '02 Starfire is actually an '02 Sunfire. The Starfire was an Oldsmobile model. What the hell was I thinking?
hmm. i dunno but mine will go to 4500. did it ONCE, a long time ago. didnt read the owners manual. maybe my tach is inaccurate too. i wouldnt doubt the inaccuracy since when in park my speedometer also moves with my tach
